If you're reading this, chances are you have a desire to improve the quality of your life.
Maybe things haven't been going so well lately and you are desperate for change...
Or perhaps things have been going well for you, but you know deep down that they could be better...
Personally, I believe that there is ALWAYS room for improvement and my goal is to share a few methods that I have discovered along my journey that can help you live a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life.
Often times when I talk to people about meditation, I hear things like "I just can't sit still" or " I get lost in my own thoughts".
It seems as though there is this misconception that you either can meditate or you simply can't...
However, meditation is actually a lot like exercise in the sense that it is extremely difficult and uncomfortable when you are first starting off. It takes discipline and consistency to sit down, shut off the outside world, and simply be alone with your own thoughts.
Nonetheless, If you can push through this initial discomfort you will find that meditation is an extremely VALUABLE tool for enhancing the quality of your life, and once you begin to experience the value that meditation can add to your life, you won't want to stop.
I first began meditating in college when dealing with an injury that kept me sidelined for the majority of my season. This experience caused me a lot of distress and anxiety and a friend of mine introduced me to meditation as a way of not only coping with these feelings but working through them in a positive manner...
Like many others, I STRUGGLED to meditate when I first got into it. I could barely sit still and would often find myself wondering "what's the point of this?" and "is this even doing anything?". Despite this, I stuck with it because I knew that there were benefits to it and I wanted to experience them for myself.
Since then, I have made meditation a daily practice and it has shown me just how important our thoughts and mental state can be in relation to every aspect of our lives.
The average person has about 6,000 thoughts per day and many of those thoughts are the same as the day before. So if you are constantly thinking negative thoughts day after day, you will continue living in the familiar state of negativity.
This is where meditation comes into play!
Through meditation we can change the program on which our subconscious mind operates much like you can change programs in a computer. If you want to operate on a more positive program you simply need to program your subconscious mind to think that way.
This is obviously easier said than done, but it is NOT impossible.
Like exercise, you must MAKE time to meditate. Prioritize it like you would prioritize your daily exercise.
As a life long athlete, I always knew it was important to take care of the body, but I greatly underestimated both the mental and physical improvements that can be attained as a result of consistent meditative practice.
If you are just starting off in your meditation journey, I recommend starting small with five to ten minute sessions.
This will help you get used to being alone with your thoughts and practicing sitting still.
As you gain experience you can increase the length and play around with the INTENTION behind each session.
If you are interested in learning more about meditation and how to reprogram the subconscious mind, I highly recommend Researching Dr. Joe Dispenza on YouTube or reading any of his books. He does a great job of breaking down the science behind meditation and I listened to many of his lectures when I first began my journey into meditative practice.
